Niladri Bije of Lord Jagannath in Puri: Deities to enter Srimandira today after Rath Yatra
‘Manabhanjan’ is an integral part of Niladri Bije, in which Lord Jagannath appeases His consort Goddess Laxmi, who was upset because the Lord had gone on Rath Yatra with His brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra without taking her.
Puri: Today in Niladri Bije. Today is the last day of Rath Yatra festival 2025 because the deities will enter Srimandira, their abode and will again be set on the Ratna Singhasana today.
On the next day of Bahuda Yatra, the deities appeared before the devotees in the famous Suna Besha. On the next day the famous Adhara Pana ritual was executed. These two important events are organized when the deities are being seated in their respective chariots in the Singhadwara of Puri, in front of Srimandira’s east gate.
The following day, the deities enter the temple. This is called Niladri Bije, which is being going on today for this year’s Rath Yatra festival.
Of course, the process of entering the temple is not easy because the deities would have to face and appease Goddess Laxmi because she is upset as the Lord had gone on Rath Yatra with His brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra without taking her. Yet, Lord Jagannath will appease the Goddess Maa Saantani. Meanwhile, before entering the temple today, Kalia Sawant will do ‘Manabhanjan’ of Lakshmi Thakurani. Kalia Thakur went to His aunt’s house without taking her, only taking His brother and sister with him.
Today is the last day of Mahaprabhu’s Patitapabana Yatra. After completing the 9 day sojourn, today Lord Jagannath will enter in to Nilakandara, His permanent Abode in Puri dham of Odisha. He sets out from Ratnavedi, finishes his play at the Janmavedi at Sri Gundicha Ghara and then return on Bahuda Yatra to enter Nilakandara again today.
After completing the Navadinanavi Yatra, Kalia Thakura will again be seated on the Ratnasinghasana of Srimandira today.
All the preparations for Niladri Bije have been completed at the administrative level. The Chaturdhabigraha will return to the temple in ‘Goti pahandi’. Therefore, the Nitikanti (rituals) has also been finalized by maintaining coordination with the servitors. Security arrangements have also been tightened for Niladri Bije.
Today morning, Mangala Alati, Mailama, Abakasha, Gopala Ballava, Sakala Dhupa, Madhyahna Dhupa, Sandhya Alati and Sandhya Dhupa rituals of Lord Jagannath was executed on the chariots. Later, the Charamala (ladder to the chariot) will be fitted and then the ‘Pahandi’ of the deities will commence to take them to the temple.
While the temple administration has decided to start the procession at 4 pm, it is said that the procession will end at 10 pm.
This year since all the rituals are going before schedule time starting from Bahuda Yatra, it is expected that the rituals will be held today early as well today. First, the pahandi of Madanmohan will be performed, followed by Sri Balbhadra and Devi Subhadra, after which the servitors will do the pahandi of Lord Jagannath.
Following ‘Manabhanjan’ of Goddess Laxmi the deities will enter into the temple. Inside the Srimandira, the Daitapati Sarbanga, Srimukha Khandua, Mahasnana, Chandanalagi, Badasinghara Besha and Badasinghara Bhog will be done before ‘Pahada’ today.
Devotees will be able to get ‘Abadha Bhoga’ in the Srimandira from tomorrow.
