Muguda Suryanarayan Acharya: The Jeypore Man Who Donated 23 Acres Of Land To Vagrants

Bhubaneswar/Jeypore: Selflessness is a sign of strength and not weakness. However, in today’s fast forwards life, virtues like helpfulness, compassion and kindness are fast vanishing.

However, there are still many who find happiness by making others happy. Muguda Suryanarayan Acharya is one such person. Hailing from Jeypore in Koraput district of Odisha, Acharya has been living in a rented house for years but has donated 2.3 acres of land to homeless people poor people.

Muguda owns a small business of door and window fabrication. Once upon a time, he too owned a big house and a thriving business. His life changed after he build a Shiva temple near his residence, whose priest one fine day advised him to serve the underprivileged people if he genuinely wishes to please god.

All around him there were homeless people, widows and landless farmers, who had nothing and living in abject poverty. He therefore made up his mind to help these people. He brought 2.3 acres of land for Rs 2 lakhs and distributed it to these people.

Shortly after this, Muguda had to go through some really bad times. He had to sell his house to keep his business running. He moved into a rented house but did not think of selling off the land he had once bought to help the homeless.

He fulfilled his commitment by distributing the purchased 2.3 acres of land to ten homeless families. In the last two decades, he has also donated 360 square feet of land to 2560 homeless families.

Despite being a god-figure to many, Muguda is now grappling to make ends meet. He lives in a rented house which is too small for a family of 15. Muguda also pays Rs 15,000 as rent for his workshop and home. Still hopeful, he believes that his good deeds will definitely pay off huge dividends in the future.

Muguda’s story shows that we can rise by lifting others. Happiness does not come through selfishness. It comes through selflessness. Every good deed we do will definitely come around as a bliss in our lives. The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself while serving others.
