Over the years Odia youngsters have excelled in diverse faculties. May it be fashion, film, technology or sports; we have now many achievers who have brought laurels to the state. When it comes to fashion we cannot deny the fact that Bhubaneswar has emerged as a glittering city in the last few years. The smart city is hosting a number of shows where beautiful models are walking on the ramp. In fact a number of young girls are now trying to carve a niche for them in the fashion industry. Yet, some of them have managed to come to limelight. Meet model and actress Sabita Barik from Balasore. She has managed to grab ample admiration from fashion lovers in a short span. We chatted with the young lassie to register her achievements in glitterati.
Sabita walked the ramp in a number of shows including Miss Kalinga 2017, DIVA 2017 and Kalinga Sundari beauty pageant in Bhubaneswar. The youngster has also acted in a few projects including the TV serial ‘Sankha Sindura’ in 2016.
“Since long I was interested for the fashion world. My debut appearance as a model was at the Miss Kalinga award event where the panel of judges asked me a few questions and selected me for the final round. Being overwhelmed with the first success so far I have attended a series of fashion events,” Sabita intimated about her first step in fashion.
A first generation model in her family she also said that she ultimately wants to be an actor and this is the first step towards this goal. So has she acted? Sabita replied, “One needs to struggle a lot both to get work and during the shoot to execute a scene. I did a small role in the serial. However, for that I went to the location and wore make up at 6 pm in the evening but my part could be shot only at 12 pm. However, I enjoyed the shoot very much.”
Although a model wears attire as per the designer’s creativity she has weakness for a certain genre of outfits. Asked about her choice the model said, “I am comfortable both in western and ethnic attires. Especially I like to feature myself in Indo-western gowns and hot pants. Besides, sometimes I also design my outfits. Especially for the photo shoots so far I have designed some dresses. I choose dresses as per the location. And normally I feel comfortable in jeans and T shirt.”
The youngster has also tried hands in dance. She has received one year training in contemporary dance from M Zone dance academy in the capital city. Even she has performed in a few stages including the annual function of M Zone. “Madhuri Dixit, Amy Jackson, Varun Dhawan and Deepika Padukone are my favourites. Madhuri is unbeatable in the whole film industry for her dancing abilities. And from the south Indian film industry I like Allu Arjun and Prabhas. I like Prabhas even before ‘Bahubali,’” Sabita intimated.

The young girl is a foodie and she loves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies. She said, “I like chicken Kawab, Thi-fi food, chilly chicken and Morton kasha in non-vegetarian and crispy mushroom fry in vegetarian food. I know about the popular food junctions in the city where you can taste mouth-watering foods. I have explored all these places after actually visiting there.”
Sabita left Balasore about six years back for a career in modelling and moved to Bhubaneswar. However, she often misses her family, especially her father. She said, “For career I am staying here. Back at my home I always had my meals with my father. So, during lunch and dinner I surely miss him. I also miss my six month old toddler niece. But I will have to compromise as I want to prosper.”
Daughter of Bimalamani and Bhagabata Barik of Baliapala, Sabita graduated from SR College in Baliapala and then completed MBA (HR) under Fakir Mohan University. Sushant, Prashant, Jayant, Geeta and Ipsita are her siblings.
An ardent fan of Odia actor Babusan Sabita someday wants to act opposite him. She said, “I would love to do a lead role in a TV serial. Besides, if I would be offered a film I would like to act opposite Babusan.”
