Daspalla: The 224-year-old historic and famous Lankapodi Yatra of Nayagarh district in Odisha has commenced, showcasing the enduring love for Ramlila in the hearts of the audience. For over two centuries, this ancient folk art has been preserved through the Ramlila or Lankapodi Yatra of Nayagarh district, attracting thousands of spectators to Dasapalla.

A glimpse into Dasapalla’s rich history

Dasapalla, known as the Mahavira Kshetra of Odisha, has a rich history dating back to the reign of kings, with Lord Mahavira being worshipped here. The ancient Ramlila tradition held in this region has gained fame across the country, with Lankapodi Yatra being recognized as a rare festival throughout India.

This year’s celebrations

This year, the Yatra will be held for 18 days, culminating in the Ravanapodi festival or Lankapodi Yatra on April 22nd. The evening procession of King Dasharatha, which tours the city of Ayodhya, will take place in front of the temple of Shri Mahavir Ji. A specially organized court of Maharaja Dasharatha on a well-decorated stage in Gandhi ground will feature dance and folk music programs.

Preparations and precautions

Every year, lakhs of spectators gather in Dasapalla to witness the famous Lankapodi Yatra. This year, too, it is expected that a large crowd will assemble to watch the Yatra. To ensure a peaceful and enjoyable experience for all, the Yatra Committee and administration have made extensive security arrangements.
