Chadak Parva of Baba Chandaneshwar Mahadev in Odisha’s Balasore district, watch
Keeping in mind the gathering of lakhs of devotees on this festival, extensive arrangements have been made by the administration
Jaleswar: Chadak Parva, the world-famous festival of Baba Chandaneshwar Mahadev, which is regarded as the second largest fair in the state has begun in Bhograi area of Balasore district. More than 50 devotees, including Patabhakta Harishchandra Sahu and Deulia Ajit Patra, have done the ‘Upanita Dharana’.
Yesterday, on the occasion of the third Monday of the month of Chaitra and the Chardak Parva, the temple premises was bustling with lakhs of devotees. The festival began with the special ritual of Srijiu in the morning and Rudravishekam and in the evening, the festival began with the cutting of burnt bamboo in the evening. A spiritual atmosphere was created in the local area with the sounds of Haribol, Hulhuli, and Shankha (conch).
The first day of this 14-day long fair was observed with pomp and show. At 4 am, the doors of Srijiu were opened. Followed by this, the doorkeeper and Nandi puja were performed, followed by the Garbhagriha Marjana, Abakasha Nithi, Mahasnan and Niti Seva Puja.
At 7:30 am, the Sahan Mela was held for the general public. At 12:30 pm, the Dhupa Niti of Srijiu began, and at 2:30 pm, the Rudrabhishek for the Chadaka Parva began.
Later, the devotees and others took the garland of the Lord’s commandments and performed the Upavit. Throughout the day, more than one lakh devotees performed the puja.
According to reports, yesterday evening, the devotees and deulias took the garland of the Lord’s commandments from the main Srijiu and tied a paita thread around their necks and performed the Upavit.
Later, under the leadership of the chief sevayat and Maurasi-nyasi Tapan Kumar Panda, deputy sevayat Buddhadeb Panda, all the sevayats and devotees of the temple, to the tune of traditional music and sahanai, went to the house of Jhadeshwar Mahati of Sukkasarisha village under Bajitpur Phachayat to cut the bamboo.
This bamboo is used as a palanquin of Srijiu on the wedding day. After performing puja there and cutting the bamboo, a large procession was taken towards the temple. After reaching the temple, the daily rituals were performed and the Arghyadana was offered.
