After Jharpada, Choudwar Circle Jail gets a canteen

Choudwar Circle Jail inmates get a canteen Cuttack: Inmates of the Choudwar Circle Jail in Cuttack got a canteen on the premises of the jail on Thursday.

Director General of Police (prison), Bijay Kumar Sharma inaugurated the canteen, which will offer both dry food and wet food to the prisoners.

The jail inmates, who had to surfer a gap of over 12-hours between dinner and breakfast, can now look forward to snacking on vada, aloo chop, samosa, biscuits, cakes, packaged chips, tea, lassi, milk, mineral water and cold drinks. They will also get soap bars for bathing and washing.

Prisoners had to go without food for over 12 hours between dinner at 5 PM and breakfast at 7 the following morning earlier.

The canteen will remain open from 10 AM to 6 PM and will be managed by the inmates themselves.

On Monday, Sharma had inaugurated a canteen – the first of its kind in the state – in the premises of Jharpada Special Jail.

According to the DGP (prisons), the state police will open canteens gradually in other jails as well.
