9 important Diwali safety tips during Covid time

India will be celebrating Diwali 2021 on Thursday. In the wake of Covid 19 pandemic the festival of light this year would be a low key affair. Many State governments including Odisha have put restrictions on bursting of crackers. Odisha government has allowed bursting of only green crackers and that is only between 8 to 10 pm on the Diwali day.

While citizens are going to celebrate Diwali amid Covid 19 pandemic and its precautionary restrictions here are 9 important tips to observe a safe Diwali. Here are the diwali safety tips:

  1. While celebrating Diwali during Covid it is advisable to wear a mask. As such wearing mask has been advised to do away with Corona. And during Diwali, wearing a mask will keep you away from smoke allergy.
  2. While bursting a green fire-cracket make sure that a responsible adult accompanies children.
  3. Keep buckets of water and blankets ready, in case a fire breaks out it will come to use.
  4. During Diwali avoid using of sanitizers before lighting diyas or candles. Sanitisers are inflammable and can cause fire hazards. Thus it is good to wash hands with soap and water, before doing anything that involves fire.
  5. It is advisable to maintain a distance of an arm’s length while lighting firecrackers. Also, maintain at least five metres while watching the green firecracker bursts.
  6. Keep small portable extinguishers handy for urgent use.
  7. Discard used fireworks in a bucket of water. This saves people from unknowingly stepping on it.
  8. Do not light firecrackers near electric wires or poles.
  9. This time it is safe not to hug people for sharing Diwali wishes due to Covid pandemic. So try and adjust to the new normal and avoid meeting people physically.
