43 Runs in an Over! Watch Video of the World Record

Hamilton: You might have heard of several World Records in the game of Cricket. Some of these are so colossal, they look out of reach for anyone. One such record was made by two New Zealand batsmen Joe Carter and Brett Hampton on November 7 (Wednesday).

The Kiwi pair scored 43 runs from an Over bowled by South Africa-born fast bowler Willem Ludick in a domestic one-day cricket match. However, they were helped by two no-balls to set the record while batting for Northern Districts against Central Districts in a Ford Trophy match.

The pair hit 4, 6 from a no ball, 6 from a no ball, 6, 1, 6, 6 and 6 from the bowling of Central’s Ludick.

Ludick had a figure of 1-42 till his 9th over. However, with the 43 runs in his final over, he ended the match with 1-85 figures.

Earlier, the most runs conceded in an over in a List A one-day match was 39 runs. Zimbabwe’s Elton Chigumbura had created the history while batting for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi against Abahani Ltd in the Dhaka Premier League in 2013.

South Australian batsman Alex Ross had also bashed Nathan Lyon for 32 runs in a single Over during a JLT one-day Cup match at Hurstville Oval.

The most runs conceded in an Over in the international cricket is 36, which has happened in both limited-overs formats, and twice in first-class cricket but never (yet) in a Test match.

While South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs had blasted six straight sixes off Netherlands bowler Daan van Bunge in the 2007 World Cup in St Kitts in the ODI cricket, India’s Yuvraj Singh held the record in T20 internationals after he hit 6 sixes in a single Over bowled by England’s Stuart Broad.
