2 brothers successfully produce Strawberry in Odisha’s Bargarh district: Watch

Bargarh: The Padampur area in Bargarh district of Odisha is often touted as a drought prone area. People also move to other States as migrant labourers from here. And thus while it seems difficult to succeed in agriculture, two youths have achieved success in strawberry farming. They have not only produced this luring fruit but have also become commercially success.

Sujit and Ajit, the two brothers from Jamkhar village in Padmapur subdivision of Bargarh have earned eye-catching success in strawberry farming. They have adopted modern technology for this farming. They have created a poly house in the backyard of their house in a 20 decimal land. Initially they brought 1500 seedlings from out of the State and started the farming.

Cold environment is required for Strawberry farming. Hence, adopting modern technology, they made poly house, line harvest and drip irrigation system.

They started the farming from last November and now are selling after the harvest. According to him strawberry is harvested in every four months. Now, there is much demand of strawberry in Padampur area. Here strawberry is sold at about Rs 500 per kg. In four months span, about 500 gram strawberry can be harvested from one strawberry plant. Accordingly, they can earn more than Rs 4 lakh from one yield.

Their father is also known as a successful farmer in the area. He has been awarded in the state level for successfully harvesting vegetables, fruits etc. The two youths have got inspired form their father. They are selling strawberries in a 200 gram pack and sending to market.

The two brothers have proved that if there is wish, hard effort and knowledge even a royal fruit like strawberry can be produced in a drought prone area like Padampur.
