1942 established Bharatmata temple in Odisha’s Boudh district conveys bravery, sacrifice of freedom fighters

Boudh: Established in 1942, the Bharatmata temple in Boudh district of Odisha conveys the bravery and sacrifice of Indian freedom fighters. The temple is located in the Banpali village under Gochhapada Panchayat.

India will be observing the 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024. On this occasion, the countrymen remember the bravery and sacrifice of the freedom fighters.

Normally we come across temples of Gods and Goddesses. However, a temple dedicated to Mother India is a rare thing. Yet, we are fortunate to have such a temple in Boudh district of Odisha. At this temple, every day worship is done amid singing of Ramadhun and Naama Sankirtan.

During the British regime in India, freedom fighters had launched the Praja Mandal agitation for social and political reforms. Back then, a number of people from this area of today’s Boudh district had also joined this famous agitation. Then, this Bharatmata temple had been built in Banapali village in 1942 where people got together to discuss about the agitation. And since then the temple is there in Boudh district that conveys the bravery and sacrifice of the freedom fighters.

Mother India or Bharat mata gets worshiped at this temple daily. Besides, every evening Ramadhun is sung here along with Naam Sankirtan.

The Bharat Mata temple is under the supervision of the district administration. However, according to the villagers, the government has provided only a house for the temple while it lacks many facilities.

The villagers have demanded to develop a mini park in the adjacent area of the temple along with dazzling lights to attract outsiders.

Every year on 15th August and 26th January the national flag is hoisted here along with the singing of the national anthem.

The villagers have urged that if the state government and district administration would pay special attention to the temple it would attract large crowd. As a result, this temple, which conveys the heroic tales of the freedom fighters will be known to others.
