Yash Chopra’s wife Pamela Yash Chopra passes away at 74

Mumbai: Legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra’s wife Pamela Chopra passed away on Thursday in Mumbai. She was 74.

Pamela is survived by her two sons Aditya Chopra, film-maker who is married to actress Rani Mukherjee, and actor-producer Uday Chopra.

Reports said, She was ailing for Pneumonia a couple of weeks and was admitted to a private hospital for treatment where she breathed her last this morning, an industry source said.

Pamela Chopra was a known playback singer, film writer and producer. She was last seen in the Netflix documentary The Romantics.

She also sang in several films like Kabhie Kabhie (1976), Trishul (1978), Silsila (1981), Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), and Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002), all of which are YRF films. Chopra co-wrote the script of Shah Rukh Khan and Karisma Kapoor-starrer 1997 film Dil To Pagal Hai with her husband

Pamela Singh, married in 1970 to Yash Chopra, the younger brother of the legendary film-maker B. R. Chopra.

Yash Chopra, a multiple National Award winner and a Dadasaheb Phalke Award laureate passed away in Mumbai in October 2012, aged 80, due to Dengue.

Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar announced the death of Pamela Chopra in his tweet. He wrote, “Today Pam ji the better half of Shri Yash Chopra has passed away. She was a great lady . Intelligent, educated , warm and witty . Those who like me have worked closely with Yash ji know about her contribution in his scripts and music. She was an exceptional person.”

“With heavy hearts, the Chopra family, would like to inform that Pamela Chopra,74  passed away this morning. Her creation took place in the morning at 11 am. We are grateful for your prayers and the family would like to request for privacy in the moment of deep sadness and reflection”, the statement read.
