The much awaited movie War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR opened well at the box office even though it had stiff opposition from Rajinikanth’s Coolie. Based on initial estimates, War 2 collected about Rs 5.16 crore in India in its opening day across all languages, with initial figures indicating a good start.
The pre-booking of the film was strong, churning out Rs 20.49 crore in all India advance booking collections for Day 1. The Hindi and Telugu markets were responsible for most of this figure, courtesy Hrithik Roshan’s North Indian fan following and Jr NTR’s loyal Southern fan base. Premium release forms such as IMAX, 4DX, and ICE contributed Rs 11.59 crore to the figure.
War 2 received huge appreciation in Southern India, especially in Andhra Pradesh, which collected Rs 8.64 crore through advance bookings. Telangana collected Rs 2.61 crore worth of confirmed sales. In the Hindi regions, Maharashtra led with Rs 2.1 crore.
Meanwhile Coolie has allegedly taken an early lead, and its Tamil version only has earned Rs 27.75 crore, which is more than the entire total of War 2 in all languages. Coolie earned almost Rs 50 crore on the Day 1 advance bookings, with War 2 running far behind with the pre-bookings standing at Rs 2.09 crore.
The advance bookings of the two movies combined have already surpassed Rs 80 crore, indicating a record breaking extended weekend to come. August 15 is a holiday, and the films are expected to perform more well. Cine critics are forecasting a massive Rs 80 crore combined box office collection this Thursday.
