Vir Das faces legal charges for ‘I come from two Indias’ monologue
Actor-comedian Vir Das has landed on legal issues as a BJP leader lodges complaint against the artist for his ‘I come from two Indias’ monologue. According to the police complaint lodged on November 17, the politician has alleged that Vir has used “derogatory” statement against the nation in an international platform with an intention to malign the country’s image.
The FIR was registered in New Delhi district police station, and the complainant is identified as Delhi BJP vice president and spokesperson Aditya Jha. According to him, during the show at the John F. Kennedy Centre in Washington DC, Vir said that in India, women are worshipped in the day and raped at night.
On November 15, Vir Das, uploaded on YouTube a six-minute clip of the same video from his monologue “I come from two Indias.” And on the very next day, he issued a statement clarifying that his remarks weren’t intended to insult the country.

In the six-minute video, Vir Das ctalked about the duality of India and mentioned some topical issues in the country such as, incidents of rapes, battle against COVID-19, crackdown against comedians and farmers’ protest, etc.
He also took to Twitter to share a statement stating that his intention was to appeal people to never forget that despite its issues the country, “we are great.”
