Veteran actor Dinyar Contractor passes away

Mumbai: Veteran actor and theatre legend Dinyar Contractor, who was awarded a Padma Shri earlier this year, passed away here on Wednesday morning. He was 79.

According to the family sources, the actor died due to old age-related health issues.

Contractor’s last rites will be performed at Worli today, sources added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the Twitter route to condole Contractor’s death.

Contractor started acting in school and began his professional acting career in 1966. He started working on television programs when Mumbai Doordarshan launched their DD-2 channel in Mumbai with a Gujarati show called Aao Marvao Meri Saathe.

The actor was best known for his comic roles in ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ and ‘Khichdi’.

The veteran comedian was also featured in several Bollywood films such as 36 China Town, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Khiladi, Baadshah among others.
