Mumbai: After a fantastic debut in Shashank Khaitan’s ‘Dhadak’ Ishaan Khatter did not sign any projects. Earlier this year there were several reports that Ishaan will be seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s next based on Salman Rushdie’s novel ‘Midnight’s Children’ but nothing actually finalised.

However, the latest news is that Ishaan Khatter has been roped in to play the lead opposite Tabu in Mira Nair’s A Suitable Boy. The two will be joined by newcomer Tanya Maniktala who will play an important part.

On starring in the project, Tabu said in an official statement, “I’m very happy to be working on A Suitable Boy, and especially with Mira. Having worked with her on the Namesake, I look forward to one more creatively charged experience.”

Adapted by Andrew Davies and produced by Lookout Point, A Suitable Boy is the story of Lata, a spirited university student in North India in 1951 just when the country is going through the polls for its first-ever democratic general elections.

While newcomer Tanya will be seen as Lata, Ishaan will play the role of Maan who loves to enjoy life to the fullest and is infatuated with courtesan Saaeda Bai, played by Tabu.

Ecstatic about starring in ‘A Suitable Boy’, Ishaan told Mumbai Mirror, “I hope I can satisfy her vision and give the global audience the character they deserve in Maan Kapoor (his character)”

The film will go on floors next month. It will be entirely shot in places like Lucknow and Maheshwar.
