Sonika-Roy-ModelBhubaneswar: Odia girl Sonika Roy, who was crowned Miss India Asia Pacific International (India) on Saturday, is upbeat about her performance in the international pageant scheduled to be held in Philippines in November.

“I was selected from among 2000 contenders for the Miss India Asia Pacific title. At the international pageant, contestants from around 75 countries will be participating. Undoubtedly, it would be a tough competition, but I am confident of a good show,” says Sonika.

“Actors like Zeenat Aman and Dia Mirza have participated in the pageant. The last crown holder from India was Srishti Rana in 2013. I hope to win the Crown this time.”

Sonika, who believes more in inner beauty, says the support from her parents has been crucial in her success. “Glamour industry has attracted me since childhood. My parents understood my inclination and supported my career in modelling. I owe my success to them.”

Like every model, Sonika follows a strict regime of exercise and healthy diet. “I am into dance, yoga and I hit the gym on a regular basis. Often models are typecast as girls with beautiful face and good height. But, inner beauty is also important,” says the beauty queen.

Sonika has already been offered a role in Tollywood and is expected to begin the shoot from September. However, she is keen to work in the Ollywood industry.

“Odisha is my birthplace. So, I would love to be a part of the Odia industry. Bollywood is everyone’s dream. I have to work a lot harder to get into the industry.”

Sonika has resolved to work for the old and the underprivileged if she wins the international title.
