Shanaya Kapoor’s Bollywood launch film “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan” started slowly in the box office, collecting a mere Rs. 35 lakh on the opening day. The film, in which Vikrant Massey features with Shanaya Kapoor, had a dismal show, recording a total of 9.92% Hindi occupancy on Friday. This is much less than Vikrant Massey’s previous film “The Sabarmati Report”, which opened to a decent Rs. 1.25 crore.

Although the box office results were disappointing, critics appreciated Shanaya Kapoor’s confident entry. The review of the film states, “Shanaya Kapoor makes a confident debut, even if her character doesn’t give her much to work with. Vikrant Massey is decent but not at his best.” The movie is about emotions, love, and the chemistry between its lead actors, but appears to be short of expectations.

The poor box office performance of the film has also created doubts over its future. With a low budget and strong competition from other Bollywood releases such as “Maalik” featuring Rajkumar Rao, “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan” will have a difficult time at the box office. It will struggle to breach Rs. 2 crore net in the weekend and Rs. 4 crore net lifetime.

In spite of the limited numbers, Shanaya Kapoor was bolstered by her family and Bollywood peers such as Arjun Kapoor and Karan Johar. Shanaya herself referred to the delayed debut as a blessing. Directed by Santosh Singh and produced by Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla, music is composed by Vishal Mishra.
