Saira Banu remembers Dilip Kumar on his 99th Birthday; says, “He will always and always be alive for me”

Veteran actor Saira Banu remembers her late husband and actor Dilip Kumar on the occasion of his 99th birth anniversary. The two were married for 55 years and shared a wonderful bonding.

Dilip Kumar passed away on July 7 this year due to prolonged illness. Saira Banu has been calming her heart by believing that although the love of her life is not around her physically, he is always there walking side by side with her.

Saira said to PTI that she will do her prayers and remember him. She wants the day to be very quiet as she visits Juhu Garden (Juhu Qabrastan), where Dilip Ji has been buried.

The legendary actor Dilip Kumar is one of Hindi cinema’s biggest icons known for films like “Mughal-e-Azam”, “Devdas”, “Naya Daur”, and “Ram Aur Shyam.” Remembering his past birthday, Saira said that their house used to be filled with flowers and colorful bouquets every year, as wishes came pouring from his fans in India and around the globe. “He was so loved by people. He still is,” she said.

According to Saira Banu, Dilip Kumar was a very lively person. She also describes him as a foodie and someone who had a penchant for simple clothes and loved sports. He loved to wear white, his simple attire and footwear were what he admired.

“He was very much into good clothing. And good food and he was a marvelous cook too. Whenever he would want to, he would try (to make) new things like soup and other items,” said the 77-year-old actress.

The late star loved to spend time with kids, she said while defining his personality as “alive and vibrant.”

Saira also shared that for the last several months she had been sending out meals to the poor on behalf of her dead husband. It is often said that time heals all wounds but for Saira life has become unimaginable for her without her husband.

Before their marriage in 1996, Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar have shared screen time in quite a few movies like ‘Bairaag’, ‘Sagina’ and ‘Gopi.’ Today, the memories that the actress made with Dilip is the only thing that keeps her going.

“Every marriage has ups and downs but we had a wonderful happy time together. He has been so supportive in my life. It has been my good fortune to have shared my life with him. I will always treasure him. He will always and always be alive for me,” Saira said to PTI.
