The hit song “Raanjhan” from Kajol’s movie Do Patti has been at the center of a plagiarism row. Global music producer KMKZ stated that the composition of the song was copied from one of his beats, which he had shared two years ago. KMKZ asserted that his piano loop was copied without acknowledgement or compensation, even though the track had garnered over 290 million Spotify streams. “I produced the number one song in India and didn’t even know about it,” he said in a video. He added that he reached out to the label and artists multiple times but received no response.

But the composers of the song, Sachet-Parampara, have strongly refuted the allegations, terming them as “baseless” and “false.” They said that they had uploaded the original files and piano scores onto YouTube, Spotify, and other music streaming sites that prove the song is their original work. Parampara maintained that the F sharp scale progression utilized in the song is common and can be employed by any composer. The streaming sites also turned down the request of KMKZ to remove the song after considering the files.

Sachet-Parampara are now looking forward to approaching court against KMKZ, accusing them of defamation. “We have brought this issue to court. We’re going to file a defamation case against these allegations that hurt our goodwill in the industry. Such misleading actions will not be allowed,” Parampara said. The duo maintained that they have never depended on plagiarism throughout their ten-year career.

This is not the first plagiarism charge on the Do Patti soundtrack. This year already, Kolkata producer Rajarshi Mitter had accused the crew of lifting his composition for the song Maiyya and even issued a legal notice. Do Patti was out in 2024. In the film, Kriti Sanon plays double roles along with Kajol as a police inspector on the case of an attempted murder in the imaginary hill station of Devipur, Uttarakhand.
