Rajkummar Rao is set to bring Sourav Ganguly’s legend to life on the silver screen. The versatile actor has confirmed that he’ll be portraying the erstwhile Indian cricket captain in a biopic. Rao expressed his thrill and nervousness at playing this big role, stating, “I am nervous. It’s a huge responsibility, but it’s going to be a lot of fun.”.
Interestingly, Sourav Ganguly himself had already indicated Rao’s casting earlier this year. When questioned regarding the project, Ganguly had commented, “Rajkummar Rao will be playing the role. I think the right person is doing it. I’ll assist him with everything”. Rao’s confirmation has followed Ganguly’s seal of approval, and fans are waiting for the movie to hit screens.
Rao’s preparation for the same is remarkable, as he has picked up Bengali in the years gone by with the help of his wife, actress Patralekhaa. He even demonstrated his Bengali speaking abilities in an interview and showed confidence in learning the accent for the screen. The plot of the film will be about Ganguly’s life, tracing his path as one of India’s greatest captains.
Shooting for the biopic will commence in January next year and will be released in December. The legend cricketer explained that pre-production, that is, story writing and scripting, will take some time. Nonetheless, shooting will be comparatively short, spanning three months, followed by post-production. The title and director of the film are yet to be announced.
