Mumbai: The wife of iconic Bollywood actor Raj Kapoor, Krishna Raj Kapoor, passed away on Monday due to cardiac arrest. She was 87.
The news was confirmed by Krishna Raj Kapoor’s son Randhir Kapoor who told PTI, “My mother passed away at about 5 am today due to cardiac arrest… old age was another factor. We are deeply saddened by her demise.”
Condolences started pouring in from all sections as soon as the news broke out. Several members of the film fraternity like Aamir Khan, Raveena Tandon, Soha Ali Khan, Anupam Kher, Karan Johar, Farah Khan and Madhur Bhandarkar expressed grief at the passing away of Krishna Raj Kapoor.
If Raj Kapoor was an institution in film making, Krishnaji was an institution in living life.
A very sad loss to all of us.

Biding adieu to her loved grandmother, Ranbir’s sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni posted a throwback picture from their Paris vacation on Instagram. She wrote- “I love you- I will always love you – RIP Dadi”
This was followed by another picture captioned- “Love you so much RIP”
Notably, Raj Kapoor married Krishna Malhotra in 1946 and they had five children together – actors Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor and daughters Rima Jain and Ritu Nana. Actors Ranbir Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Aadar Jain and Armaan Jain are her grandchildren.
Though Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor are in Mumbai, actor Rishi Kapoor has left for the US for medical treatment. Randhir Kapoor has informed that the last rites will be performed at Mumbai’s Chembur Crematorium today.
