Paresh Rawal’s classic act of playing Babu Rao in the hit comedy film Hera Pheri has become double-edged sword for the actor. In a recent interview, Paresh indicated being stereotyped in his comedy acts like the Hera Pheri one by drawing the comparison with “gale ka fanda” or noose.

“I approached Vishal Bharadwaj in 2007, after the sequel was released in 2006, and informed him that I wanted to get away from that image,” Paresh revealed. “I had a different character in mind, but with the same attire. Only he could pull it off. Whoever came to me with the offer had that Hera Pheri image in their minds. I’m a performer, and I don’t want to be trapped in that role.”

Paresh also uncovered that he was also experiencing the same frustrations years afterward. “In 2022, I met R Balki and requested him to provide me with something new, perhaps a different role with the same attire,” he explained. “I feel oppressed, like I’m trapped. Although it does make me happy, I long for freedom from this image.”

The announcement that Priyadarshan will be directing Hera Pheri 3, with Paresh, Akshay Kumar, and Suniel Shetty returning, has generated buzz among fans. Considering Paresh’s feelings, it will be interesting to observe how this new chapter affects his attitude towards the legendary role that has defined and constrained him.
