Oscars 2019: India’s Period: End of Sentence wins best documentary

Green Book won best picture, Bohemian Rhapsody took home four statues, and Black Panther and Roma got three each

California: 91st Academy Awards, better known as Oscars was conducted on Monday at Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles here. And the highlight of the event in regard to Indians was the documentary titled winning the prestigious award in the best documentary/short film category. This was co-produced by an Indian, Guneet Monga.

Period: End of Sentence is a documentary based in rural India, where the stigma of menstruation persists, and showcased the struggle of women to make low-cost sanitary pads on a new machine and their stride towards financial independence.

Another highlight of the grand event was Lady Gaga’s Shallow in the Original Song category. The song featured in Lady Gaga-Bradley Cooper movie A Star Is Born. After Olivia Colman won the prestigious statue for Actress in the leading role, she thanked beautiful Lady Gaga in her acceptance speech.
