Odisha CM congratulates ‘Period: End of Sentence’ team for getting Oscars

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday congratulated the team of the documentary film ‘Period: End of Sentence’ that received the Oscars award today.

Taking to his twitter handle Patnaik congratulated Guneet Monga, the co-producer of ‘Period: End of Sentence’ and the entire team of the movie. Monga hails from New Delhi.

Expressing his happiness over the success of the film, the Chief Minister said that it is a tribute to womanhood around the world and it will raise awareness and influence the discourse, particularly on adolescence hygiene for girls.

The Period: End of Sentence is based on the rural India which highlighted the stigma of menstruation persists and showcased the struggle of women to make low-cost sanitary pads on a new machine and their stride towards financial independence.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the Odisha government also has launched a female health and hygiene program called ‘Khushi.’ The state government will provide free sanitary pads to around 17.25 lakh adolescent girl students of Class VI to XII studying in government and government-aided schools in the state. It has decided to spend Rs 466.08 crore for the scheme over a period of five years.
