Legendary actor Betty White passes away at the age of 99

Actress Betty White, who made US television audiences laugh for more than seven decades, starring on popular sitcoms “The Golden Girls” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” died Friday at age 99.

The pioneering Emmy-winning comedienne enjoyed one of the longest careers in showbiz history: she began regularly appearing on television in 1949 and had a voice role in “Toy Story 4” in 2019.

She launched her TV career in daytime talk shows when the medium was still in its infancy and endured well into the age of cable and streaming. Her combination of sweetness and edginess gave life to a roster of quirky characters in shows from the sitcom “Life With Elizabeth” in the early 1950s to oddball Rose Nylund in “The Golden Girls” in the ’80s to “Boston Legal,” which ran from 2004 to 2008.

Betty White has 115 acting credits to her name and has starred in hit productions including The Bold and the Beautiful, Ladies Man, That ’70s Show, Boston Legal, Hot in Cleveland, among others. The actress has been recognized with honourable awards and accolades including Primetime Emmy Awards, American Comedy Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards and a Grammy Award in 2012. She has also been awarded several Lifetime Achievements for her brilliance as an actor.
