Janhvi Kapoor opens up on Param Sundari vs Chennai Express comparisons, here’s what she says
Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra respond to Param Sundari comparisons with Chennai Express, highlighting their film's unique perspective.
Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra’s upcoming movie Param Sundari has been compared to the 2013 blockbuster movie Chennai Express of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. The reason for the comparison is the cross-cultural love story that both films have. Nevertheless, Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra believe that their movie has a different approach.
At an interview, Sidharth Malhotra replied to the comparisons, “I think it’s a great thing. I love Chennai Express! I think it’s a good reference. I take it as a compliment. The picture was released 10 years ago. Definitely, these two films are not the same!” Janhvi Kapoor chimed in, “It’s a hit movie and an iconic movie. But Deepika played a Tamilian in the film, and I play a half-Tamilian, half-Malayali girl… which, if you think about it, is a generalisation happening from the people who are comparing the two films.”
Janhvi also said that the background of her character is different, saying, “I am from Kerala in the film, and not everyone from the South can be lumped together. It’s a different environment altogether, and it’s not like that this is a repetitive thing at all.” She also added that movies like 2 States, which touched on similar subjects, didn’t come out every year, and comparing her to Chennai Express is natural because of its cult status.
Param Sundari is a story of a cross-cultural romance between the Delhi boy played by Sidharth Malhotra and the Kerala girl played by Janhvi Kapoor. The movie, directed by Tushar Jalota, is releasing on August 29 and also stars Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya. With all the comparisons to Chennai Express, Janhvi and Sidharth are keen to point out the different aspects of their film.
