Italian fashion designer Valentino passes away at 93

Italian fashion designer legend Valentino was the most successful and popular for 45 years straight and got retired in 2007.

Italian fashion Legend, Valentino Garavani passed away yesterday at the age of 93, his foundation said Monday.

He founded his fashion house which is named after him ‘Valentino’ in 1959 and ranked alongside Giorgio Armani and Karl Lagerfeld at the top of the profession.

“Valentino Garavani passed away today at his Roman residence, surrounded by his loved ones,” his Fondazione Valentino Garavani e Giancarlo Giammetti said Instagram yesterday. Adding to it “Garavani was not only a constant guide and inspiration for all of us, but a true source of light, creativity and vision.”

According to the foundation Valentino Garavani e Giancarlo Giammetti, The funeral rites will take place at the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and Martyrs Rome on Friday. The deceased body of the Italian legend will lie in the foundation’s headquarters in Rome tomorrow and day after tomorrow from 11 AM to 6 PM.

He was born in Lombardy in May 1932, popularly known by his father’s first name Valentino. In his early career he was also known for his signature red colour dresses in a rich scarlet shade for which he was known as ‘Valentino Red’ in the industry.
