New Delhi: Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has issued a public apology after facing backlash over a controversial remark on unprotected sex made during a recent concert in Delhi. The clip, which went viral on social media platforms including Reddit, drew criticism from several users who found the comment inappropriate.
What Led to the Remark
Explaining the context, Honey Singh said that prior conversations with gynaecologists and sexologists had made him aware that many young people are suffering from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) due to unsafe sex practices. Addressing a Gen Z–dominated audience at the concert, the rapper said he attempted to convey a message about safe sex in a language he believed the younger generation would relate to.
“When I went on the show, I saw the Gen Z audience and thought I’d give them a message in their language — to not have unprotected sex and to use condoms. I spoke the way they consume OTT content and films,” he explained.
Honey Singh admitted that his choice of words offended many people and offered a direct apology.
“Lekin woh bhasha kaiyon ko bahut buri lagi. Main aap sab se maafi maangta hoon jinko meri woh bhasha buri lagi. Mera kisi ko thes pahuchane ka koi maqsad nahi tha.
Insaan ek ghaltiyon ka putla hai,” he said, adding that hurting sentiments was never his intention.
Promise to Be More Mindful
The rapper further assured fans that he would be more careful with his words in the future.
“Main koshish karunga aaj ke baad aisi ghalti dobara na ho. Main apni zubaan par niyantran rakhunga — kya bolna hai, kisko bolna hai aur kaise bolna hai,” he stated.
He concluded his video message with another apology, saying,
“Aap sab se maafi. Aapka apna Yo Yo Honey Singh. Isi tarah pyaar dete rahiye.”
All about the Controversy
The issue arose from a clip recorded at the Delhi concert, where Honey Singh was heard making a sexually explicit remark while urging the audience to use protection. The comment quickly spread online, triggering mixed reactions.
While some users mocked the rapper, others strongly criticised his public persona. Comments ranged from sarcastic nicknames like “Yo Yo Horny Singh” to remarks questioning his influence on youth. A few users even suggested it was time for the rapper to step away from the spotlight again.
Clarification on Instagram
Responding to the criticism, Honey Singh shared a video on Instagram clarifying that he attended the concert as a guest. He reiterated that his intention was to promote safe sex awareness, but acknowledged that his words were poorly chosen.
