Happy Birthday Udit Narayan: The man with a golden voice

The singing icon celebrates his 63rd birthday today. A throwback into his musical journey.

Udit Narayan is Hindi movie industries one of the most celebrated male playback singers. On his 63rd birthday, the article reminisces his beautiful journey.

He is the only male singer in history to have won awards in over three decades (the 80s, 90s, and 2000s). Udit Narayan has sung in languages such as Nepali, Maithili, Hindi, Bhojpuri, and Odia. He has been conferred with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards. He is also a three-time National award winner and a staggering number of  20 Filmfare awards.

Udit Narayan got his first chance in ‘Unees Bees’. But he shot to fame with his iconic ‘Papa kehte hain’ from ‘Qayamat se Qayamat Tak’. It’s been 30 years since the song released, but it still continues to be an anthem for all youngsters till date.

It is also surprising the range of songs that he has sung. From optimistic ‘Papa kehte hain’ to romantic ‘Jadu teri nazar’ to soulful ‘Udja kale kawaan’ to romantic ‘Main yahan hoon yahan’ to heart-wrenching ‘Pardesi pardesi’. The list goes on, and so does every 90s music buffs love for this musical legend.

Udit Narayan has also lent his voice for some beautiful Odia renderings. He has ‘Are re re’, ‘Tume heicha’, ‘Mane jebe lage’ among others. His famous bhajans are ‘Chulbulia Chhanchhania Natkhatia ’, ‘Kala Bhairaba’, ‘Haemo Paradesia Bandhu Tame’ amongst others.
