Mumbai: A few days back, it was reported that newlyweds Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone will be playing Kapil Dev and his wife Romi in Kabir Khan’s next ’83. The film is a biopic based on the life of legendary cricketer Kapil Dev under whose captainship India won its first-ever World Cup in 1983. He had also coached the Indian cricket team between October 1999 and August 2000.

However, recent reports suggest that Deepika is no more a part of the project now. The actress has reportedly rejected the role believing it won’t hold much value in the film.

A source close to the project told a leading tabloid, “ ’83 is a boys films. The focus is on Kapil Dev and his team bringing home the World Cup. Ranveer plays Kapil Dev. Some people are writing that Deepika will play his wife Romi. Sounds tempting. But it’s just not true. Kapil Dev’s wife’s role will be very limited in this film. Deepika is a huge brand. She wouldn’t do any film just because her husband is in it.”

On Sunday, Ranveer took to Instagram to share his first look from the film. He wrote, “And the glorious journey begins…….. #83 🏏 #kapildev @83thefilm #balwindersinghsandhu @kabirkhankk”

In the picture, the Band Baaja Baarat actor can be seen getting into character for Kapil Dev’s biopic ‘83’. He was seen training with his cricket coach Balwinder Singh Sandhu, who was part of the 1983 Indian cricket team alongside Kapil Dev.
