Bhubaneswar: A new dance academy, Pooja Dance Studio, was inaugurated recently in Bhubaneswar. Pooja Mohapatra, a well-known choreographer and dancer of Ollywood is the founder and chief instructor of the dance academy. The dance studio is at the Cosmopolis Apartments in Khandagiri area of Odisha capital.
Pooja Danace Academy provides training on dance styles including Jumba, Salsa, locking and popping, contemporary, Bollywood dance besides Yoga and Art and Craft. Her dance and life partner Ajay sir will also provide dance training in the studio.
Talking to Kalinga TV Pooja and Ajay said that it was a dream of them to have a dance school of their own with all modern amenities where they can groom greenhorns to turn them into dance maestros.
In a career spanning over approximately 36 years Pooja has worked in a number of Odia films as a dancer or asst. choreographer in films including ‘Kie Kahara’, ‘Pabitra Bandhana’, ‘Singha Bahini’ and ‘Mana Rahigala Tumari Thare’.
Besides films, Pooja has also performed on the stage not only in Odisha and other states but also overseas. She has performed in Malaysia, Dubai, South Africa as well as Bangkok. For around one year she was in South Africa to run a dance academy where she was providing training on Indian dance styles.
A connoisseur of modern dances, Pooja also excels in Odissi and folk dance. She had begun her career long before as a child artist in Odia film ‘Bhuli Huena’.
