Cyber police book comedian Pranit More over viral comedy show controversy
Maharashtra Cyber has been alerted to the alleged objectionable content being shared across social media platforms after a show in Gurugram and will now look into the matter.
Mumbai: Maharashtra Cyber Police have filed an FIR against stand-up comedian Pranit More and web developer Himanshu Jangra, along with many others, for allegedly spreading obscene and objectionable material across social media.
The reason behind the anger was the comedian’s remark made to an audience member, who was accused of being coercive and non-consensual towards women.
Authorities revealed that the case has been registered at the Nodal Cyber Police station of Maharashtra, after the video and surrounding content were checked.
Officials have also been probing the origin of the video along with its publication and distribution via digital media.
The involved parties, including More, Jangra, and many others, were asked to appear for an interrogation by police, which is underway in relation to the case.
It had received numerous reactions online from users as well as several prominent personalities from the entertainment world.
Whilst many have argued in favor of artistic freedom, there have been calls to take immediate action against such harmful content.
The case remains under investigation, and the authorities state that subsequent steps will be taken on the basis of investigations and statements provided by the concerned individuals.
