ASTRO’s MJ to enlist for mandatory military service, label announces date

K-pop boy band ASTRO’s eldest member Kim Myung-jun, fondly known by his stage name MJ, will soon be attending his mandatory military service. The band’s label, Fantagio Entertainment, took to its official Twitter account on Saturday, to confirm the artiste’s enlistment date i.e. May 9.

ASTRO’s fandom, popularly known as AROHA, are extremely sad over the news. In their statement Fantagio wrote, “MJ will receive basic military training at the training center on May 9 & fulfill his military duties in the military band. To prevent the spread of COVID-19 on the day of admission, the location and time of MJ’s enlistment will not be revealed.”

MJ officially debuted in 2016 as the main vocalist of the South Korean six-member boy group, ASTRO. Along with his position in the band he is also an actor, and model by profession. In 2019, he sang his first OST for the Korean drama, ‘My Only One’ titled ‘You’re My Everything’.

Later, in April 2020, MJ sang another OST titled ‘Sweet Spring’ for the Korean drama, ‘Eccentric! Chef Moon.’

Before taking a sabbatical from work on January 2022, MJ last made headlines for winning ‘The Trot Show’s ‘The Trot Show.’ He became the first idol to ever win first place on ‘The Trot Show’.
