Mumbai: In 2005, Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji had delivered the biggest hit of the year ‘Bunty Aur Babli’. The film, shot in Varanasi, Allahabad and other small towns of Uttar Pradesh, was about a con-couple shooting and whooping their way through a series of capers.
After 14 years, both the actors are all set to reunite for the sequel of their film titled ‘Bunty Aur Babli Again’. Pinkvilla has reported that the film is likely to feature Rani Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan along with two actors from the younger generation.
The Pinkvilla report stated, “Unlike Bunty Aur Babli, the second installment will not have just Rani and Abhishek. There will be two pairs of actors with a jodi from the younger generation of actors joining the two main leads from the original. The story has been written in a way which requires two leading pairs. It needs to be seen if Amitabh Bachchan also reprises his role in the sequel. But as of now, the makers are currently in process of looking the Gen-Y actors for the film.”
Interestingly, the sequel will mark the fifth collaboration between Abhishek and Rani. Apart from Bunty Aur Babli (2005), the duo have worked together in Yuva (2004), Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006) and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007).
Notably, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ was a film that was woven around two small towners Rakesh Trivedi (Abhishek) and Vimmi Saluja (Rani) who dream of becoming rich and famous. For this, they become con artists and cheat people using the pseudonyms Bunty and Babli. Amitabh Bachchan too played a pivotal role in the film as a no-nonsense cop, on a mission to nab the con-couple.
It was the first film that featured father-son-duo Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan together.
Directed by Shaad Ali, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ also featured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the dance number ‘Kajra Re’.
