67th National Film Awards: Rajinikanth receives Dadasaheb Phalke Award, details here

The 67th National Film Awards ceremony is held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi today. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu distributed the awards to all the winners at the ceremony which began at 11 am. The winners were announced on March 22 at the National Media Centre, Delhi.

The awards were conferred to the winners for their films released in 2019. Although the event was originally meant to be held in May this year, there was a delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

The National Film Awards are India’s most prestigious film awards recognizing excellence in cinematic achievements.

Veteran actor Rajinikanth was awarded the 51st Dada Saheb Phalke award, India’s highest film honour.

The jury had to choose the best from around 461 films in the feature category and 220 films in the shorts category. Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee and South actor Dhanush won awards for the Best Actor for their films Bhonsle (Hindi) and Asuran (Tamil) respectively.

Meanwhile, actress Kangana Ranaut received the National Film Award in Best Actress category for film ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ & ‘Panga.’

Furthermore, Priyadarshan’s Malayalam period epic Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea won the Best Feature Film award, and Best Hindi Film went to Chhichhore. Singer-songwriter B Praak got the National Award for the Best Male Playback Singer for the patriotic song Teri Mitti from his war-drama Kesari. ‘The Tashkent Files’ by Vivek Agnihotri received the award for the Best Dialogue while Vivek’s wife and actress Pallavi Joshi won the Best Supporting Actress award for the same film.
