Odisha polls: Rs 1.95 lakh cash seized from Congress candidate’s car

Keonjhar: The Champua police on Saturday seized Rs 1.95 lakh cash from a car belonging to Congress candidate from Champua Assembly Constituency, Jadumani Barik, near Shankarpur area in Keonjhar district in Odisha.

In routine surveillance ahead of Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, the police intercepted Barik’s Maroon coloured Hyundai Creta bearing Regd. No- OD 02 AB 7182 and found the said amount of cash as well as huge numbers of election campaigning posters from the vehicle.

Police sources said, Barik failed to produce any valid documents regarding the sources of the money following which he was detained, while the cash and posters were seized.

The ensuing simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha are slated to be held in four phases from April 11 to April 29.
