Bhubaneswar: Cuttack-Choudwar MLA Prabhat Biswal today declined to contest the upcoming Odisha Assembly election.

The sitting MLA has cited his decision as ‘personal’ and said to have informed Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in this regard.

Speaking to media persons about his decision, Biswal said that he will be away from the politics till the final verdict of the court on his alleged involvement in the multi-crore chit fund scam. The legislator, however, made it clear that he is with the conch party and work for the party sincerely.

Notably, CBI had attested Biswal on September 19, 2017 for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore chit fund scam and alleged complicity with tainted firm Seashore.

Biswal’s decision comes close on the heels of his party colleague and Banki MLA Prabhat Tripathy who also decided not to contest the forthcoming election.

BJD President had suspended Tripathy from the party soon after his arrest on October 31, 2014, for his alleged links with a ponzi firm Artha Tatwa (AT) Group. However, his suspension was revoked two years later after the Orissa High Court granted him bail on March 3, 2015.
