Odisha Governor accepts resignation of Naveen Patnaik

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Professor Ganeshi Lal on Friday accepted the resignation tendered by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and his Council of Ministers as to enable the formation of new Council of Ministers following the results of the general elections.

However, the Governor has requested the Chief Minister and his present Council of Ministers to continue in their office till the date new Council of Ministers is sworn in.

Sources said, newly elected BJD legislature party meeting, chaired by  BJD President Naveen Patnaik, will be held here on May 26.

Patnaik is set to become the Chief Minister of the state for the fifth consecutive term, party insiders informed.  In the 2019 elections, he has won from two  Assembly constituencies  — his traditional Hinjili segment in Ganjam district and Bijepur in western Odisha.

Out of total 147  Assembly seats in the state, 146 Assembly segments went for polls in the 2019 polls. The ruling BJD won 112 seats, while BJP bagged 23 and Congress secured nine seats. Communist Party of India-Marxist and an Independent candidate won one seat each.
