Mayawati calls PM Modi ‘fake’ OBC leader

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party President Mayawati on Friday said Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav is the “real” backward community leader and not a “fake OBC leader” like Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mayawati’s statement came while addressing the SP-BSP joint election rally at Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh today.

“It is well-known that when Shri Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat, he misused power to give the OBC status to the upper caste he belongs to,” Mayawati said.

“Shri Narendra Modi also used his OBC tag to get electoral benefit in the 2014 elections and also became the Prime Minister. But you know that a fake OBC person cannot do any good to backward classes with full dedication and honesty,” she added.

SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, who shared the stage with Mayawati for the first time since 1995, is his party’s candidate from Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency.

Voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh concluded with turnout of 67. 55 per cent on Thursday.

The remaining 64 seats will go to polls in the next five phases of elections, and counting will be held on May 23.
