Audi car driver dumps bag with Rs 27.49 lakh, flees in poll-bound Rourkela

Rourkela: A team of flying squad seized Rs 27.49 lakh packed in a bag at Mahipani Chhak under Bisra police limits in Rourkela of Sundergarh district this afternoon.

According to reports, a team of flying squad seized Rs 27.49 lakh from a bag while conducting a checking at Mahipani Chhak to prevent illegal transportation of cash, liquor, drugs and jewelleries as the model code of conduct is in force in view of the 2019 state assembly and Lok Sabha elections,

The checking team seized the cash from the spot after an Audi car driver dumped it after seeing the checking on the route. The flying squad team is, however, clueless of the vehicle as the driver fled the site after dumping the cash bag before anyone could identify him.

Police, meanwhile, have started an investigation into the matter. They also have launched a search operation in the area to trace the Audi car and identify it and its driver. Besides, they are also verifying the source of the seized cash.

Notably, the Sundargarh Lok Sabha constituency and seven Assembly segments – Sundargarh, Talsara, Rajgangpur, Biramitrapur, Rourkela, Raghunathpali and Bonai – under it will go to polls in the second phase on April 18.
