Berhampur: A Class IX boy was killed after being run over by a speeding truck in Champeitapur village under Kabisuryanagar Police Station area in the district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Rudra Palai.
The mishap took place this morning while the victim minor boy was on his way to school riding a bicycle. Near Champeitapur Square a speeding truck coming from opposite direction struck his cycle and mowed down. The victim’s head came under the wheels of the truck and got crushed leaving him dead on the spot.
Tension engulfed the area following the accident as locals staged road blockade demanding arrest of the truck driver who managed to flee from the spot with the vehicle after the accident.
The road blockade was removed after Kabisuryanagar Police reached the spot and assured the locals of action against the guilty after seizing the dead body.
