High Death Numbers In Odisha Due To Covid Peak, Bijay Mohapatra

Bhubaneswar: The increased rate of hospitalization in Odisha is due to the peak of the third ongoing Covid wave said the Health Services Director, Bijay Mohapatra.

He further added that due to the high hospitalization rate, the death rate has increased.

The Health Services Director added that almost 50 percent of those on ventilator support have high chances of mortality.

Likewise, the condition of 20-30 percent of the patients admitted in ICUs is likely to deteriorate further.

Co-morbidities is also said to be another reason for the high mortality rate in the State among Covid patients.

Even if a Covid positive has recovered and has other co-morbidities and then succumbs within 30 days, such deaths are considered as Covid deaths in Odisha.

Presently there are 532 Covid patients in general beds, 473 in ICUs and 85 patients are there on ventilator support informed the Health Services Director, Bijay Mohapatra.
