Upcoming Citroen C3 SUV might feature a flex-fuel engine, to be first of its kind in India

French automobile manufacturer Citroen is all set to launch its upcoming SUV Citroen C3 in India next year. The company is expected to unveil the vehicle on September 16. However, according to reports the Citroen SUV might be the first SUV in India to be powered by a flex-fuel engine.

The Citroen C3 SUV, which is code-named CC21 had been spotted in India several times during its test trial. According to reports the C3 SUV can be the first car in India to be powered by flex-fuel engine and is promoted by the central government.

The flex-fuel engine is compatible with ethanol-blended petrol. However, it is quite similar to the normal internal combustion engine used in the regular cars in India. Speaking in rough terms, a flex-fuel engine is capable of using mixture of petrol and ethanol or methanol. The fuel mixture sensor in the vehicle engine detects the mixture and adjusts accordingly.

In terms of engine specifications, the engine comes with a 1.2 litre turbocharged 5 speed manual or 6 speed automatic transmission gearbox. A 1.6 litre naturally aspired engine can also be provided by the company.

The SUV engine can generate maximum power of 118 bhp and a torque of 158 Nm. The production of the SUV is likely to take place in a plant near Chennai.

The internal features and price of the vehicle remains unknown till date.
