Toyota bZX4 SUV, an all electric car with a range up to 500km

Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has unveiled its all-electric SUV, Toyota bZX4. The all-electric SUV will be Toyota’s first model under the bZ series. The term bZ means ‘beyond Zero’, which is Toyota’s approach towards carbon neutrality.

The Toyota bZX4 SUV will be powered by a 71.4kWh battery pack which is present under the floor of the car. The SUV is offered in front-wheel drive variant as well as a four-wheel drive variant. The front-wheel drive variant is powered by a single electric motor and produces a maximum power of 201bhp and peak torque of 265Nm. The SUV accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 8.4 seconds. On a full charge, the SUV offers a range of 500 km. The front wheel variant has a 150 kW motor at the front.

On the other hand, the four-wheel drive variant which will be co-manufactured by Subaru will have dual electric motors. The motors churn out 215bhp of maximum power and a peak torque of 336Nm. This four-wheel drive version of Toyota all electric car can go from 0-100km/h in 7.7 seconds. It also features multiple all-terrain driving modes which can easily tackle tough off-road conditions. On a full charge, the four wheel drive version of the SUV offers a range up to 460 km. This variant offers two motors of 80 kW at front and rear.

In terms of interior design, the Toyota bZX4 SUV is quite modern. The buyers of this electric SUV can opt from a regular steering wheel or a wing-shaped steering. When it comes to charging, Toyota claims that the bZX4 can be fast charged up to 80 per cent in 30 minutes on a 150 KW direct current. However, for those who want to charge this SUV at their home, can use a 11kW AC charger for overnight.

When it comes to design, the car looks quite sharp from the front as well as the back. It also has a panoramic sunroof along with large 20-inch alloy wheels. The bZX4 offers a massive boot space of 452 litres.

It is expected that Toyota will launch this SUV in US, Europe, Japan and China markets. However, keeping in mind about the EV infrastructure in our country, it is highly unlikely that we will see a launch in India.
