Tim Cook greets huge crowd as Apple Delhi Saket opens today

The Apple own-branded retail store at Select CityWalk mall in Saket, South Delhi, was jam-packed with fans and customers, as a delighted Cook welcomed customers.

New Delhi: A log-queue of people was seen at Select Citywalk Mall in Saket early Thursday morning as Apple CEO Tim Cook inaugurated the opening of the second store in India.

The tech giant’s CEO Tim Cook greeted the crowd and welcomed the customers to the store. Mr Cook was also seen clicking photographs with the fans at 10 am. The Apple own-branded retail store at Select CityWalk mall in Saket, South Delhi, was jam-packed with fans and customers, as a delighted Cook welcomed customers.

The Apple Saket store has a unique design which takes inspiration from Delhi’s many gates.However, it is bit smaller than the Mumbai Apple store, which opened on Tuesday in Jio World Drive at Bandra Kurla Complex on Tuesday. The Apple Saket store in Delhi is half the size of the Mumbai store where the company will reportedly pay a portion of total sales from the store as rent or Rs 40 lakh per month, whichever is higher.

The Retail store has more than 70 retail team members, who has come from 18 states of India and collectively speak more than 15 languages. For hands-on technical and hardware support, customers can make a reservation at the Genius Bar at Apple Saket for help from an Expert.

Earlier, Mr Cook met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and talked about more investment in the country. The company is looking to invest more in the world’s second-largest smartphone market.

According to government sources, the iPhone maker is likely to double the employment base at its contract manufacturers in India to around 2 lakh soon.

On Tuesday, Tim Cook opened Apple’s first official retail store in the country in Mumbai. Mr Cook has visited India after a seven year gap after his he last visited India in 2016 when the tech giant was just beginning to scale up operations in the country.

The Apple CEO met Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar during his visit this time. MR Cook has reportedly sought government support to widen its components supplier base in India and discussed manufacturing facilities and app design and development accelerator in Bengaluru.
