Czech automaker Skoda has announced the launch dates for its new midsize sedan Skoda Slavia in India. The company has confirmed the launch of Skoda Slavia in March 2022.

This new midsize sedan will compete with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and Volkswagen Vento in India. This new sedan introduced by Skoda will replace the Rapid in India. The bookings for the vehicle have already opened. In appearance, the Skoda Slavia appears to be a Skoda Octavia within a budget. This means Skoda will have three sedans in its line-up including Octavia and Superb.

The Skoda Slavia is based on the made-for- India MQB A0 IN platform which is also used in SUVs like the Kushaq and Tiguan. In terms of dimensions, the Skoda Slavia is 4541mm in length, 1752mm in width and 1487 mm and height. The wheelbase of the sedan is 2651mm. Roughly saying, the Skoda Slavia is way bigger in every dimension than the outgoing Rapid as well as the first generation Octavia.

Under the hood, the Skoda Slavia gets either a 1.0-litre TSI petrol or a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine. The smaller engine produces a power of 113 bhp and a peak torque of 175 Nm. The 1.0-litre engine is available with a six speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox options. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine will produce maximum power of 150 bhp. The peak torque of the engine is 250 Nm. In terms of gearbox, the 1.5-litre engine variant gets six-speed manual transmission as well as seven-speed DSG automatic option.

The safety features on the Skoda Slavia includes multiple airbags (6), ISOFIX, Hill Hold Control, ABS with EBD, ESC and TPMS.

The interiors of the Skoda Slavia are quite identical to that of the Skoda Kushaq. The steering wheel is dual-spoked and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system occupies the centre of the infotainment system. There is a presence of a fully digital instrument cluster in the Slavia. Some of the other important features in the cabin include rear AC vents, wireless charging, a digital cockpit and a dual-tone theme that looks premium.

Skoda has however refrained from revealing the prices of the Slavia. Considering the segment of the sedan, the Skoda Slavia is expected to be priced anywhere in between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
