Skoda Slavia mid-size sedan unveiled in India, to compete against Hyundai Verna and Honda City

Czech automaker Skoda has revealed the new Skoda Slavia midsize sedan in India today. This new midsize sedan will compete with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and Volkswagen Vento in India. This new sedan introduced by Skoda will replace the Rapid in India. The Skoda Slavia sedan is expected to launch in the first half of 2022 and the bookings for the vehicle have already opened. In appearance, the Skoda Slavia appears like a Skoda Octavia within a budget.

The Skoda Slavia is based on the made-for- India MQB A0 IN platform which is also used in SUVs like the Kushaq and Tiguan. In terms of dimensions, the Skoda Slavia is 4541mm in length, 1752mm in width and 1487 mm and height. The wheelbase of the sedan is 2651mm. Roughly saying, the Skoda Slavia is way bigger in every dimension than the outgoing Rapid.

Under the hood, the Skoda Slavia gets either a 1.0-litre TSI petrol or a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine. The smaller engine produces a power of 113 bhp and a peak torque of 175 Nm. The 1.0-litre engine is available with a six speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox options. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre four cylinder turbocharged engine will produce maximum power of 150 bhp. The peak torque of the engine is 250 Nm. In terms of gearbox, the 1.5-litre engine gets six-speed manual and seven-speed DSG automatic options.

The safety features on the Skoda Slavia includes multiple airbags (6), ISOFIX, Hill Hold Control, ABS with EBD, ESC and TPMS.

The interiors of the Skoda Slavia are quite identical to that of the Skoda Kushaq. The steering wheel is dual-spoked and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system occupies the centre of the infotainment system. There is a presence of fully digital instrument cluster in the Slavia. Some of the other important features in the cabin include rear AC vents, wireless charging, digital cockpit and a dual-tone theme which looks premium.

Skoda has however refrained from revealing the prices of the Slavia. Considering the segment of the sedan, the Skoda Slavia price in India is expected to be anywhere in between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).
