Sensex Rises By Over 200 Points, Rupee Falls 10 Paise Against Dollar

Mumbai: The BSE Benchmark Sensex opened on a positive note for the third consecutive day, rising by nearly 200 points on Wednesday. The 30-share Sensex was trading at 177.17 points or 0.50 per cent higher at 35,690.31.

Following suit, NSE Nifty also rose by 35.20 points or 0.35 per cent higher at 10, 725.60.

The top gainers were IndusInd Bank, Infosys, ITC, Kotak Bank, HDFC Bank, Hero MotorCorp, Bharti Airtel, SBI, Asian Paints, TCS and Bajaj Auto.

On the other hand, the Indian Rupee depreciated by 10 paise at 70.89 against the US Dollar at the interbank foreign exchange during early trade on Wednesday.

Traders have opined that increased overseas demand for the American currency, strengthening of dollar against other units and global trends have resulted in the depreciation of the domestic unit.
