Mumbai: The Indian Rupee fell by 33 paise to 71.30 against the US Dollar at the forex market during early trade on Tuesday amid fresh demand for the US currency from importers.

Forex dealers said strengthening of dollar against some currencies overseas and a lower opening in domestic equities weighed heavily on the domestic unit.

On Monday, the rupee had gained 17 paise to close at 70.97 against the American $ in sync with most Asian currencies amid hopes that the US and China will soon reach an agreement to settle their trade tariff issues.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell 349.78 points, or 0.97 per cent, to 35,863.60 during opening trade on Tuesday.
