With GST 2.0, many cars in India will become more affordable. Here is the list of all the cars that will become cheaper.
From September 22, the GST on many cars in India will change making them more affordable. Most small and medium-sized cars will now have 18% GST down from 28%.
According to the reports, small petrol cars with engines up to 1,200 cc and under 4 meters long were taxed at 28% GST plus 1% cess.
While, small diesel cars above 1,500 cc and under 4 meters were taxed at 28% GST plus 3% cess. Large SUVs with engines above 1,500 cc and over 4 meters were taxed at 50% including cess.
Under GST 2.0, taxes are simpler and lower for most cars. However, luxury cars will now attract 40% GST.
Here is the list of all the cars that will become cheaper with GST 2.0:
1. Maruti Suzuki Alto K10
The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is one of the most affordable cars in India. It is widely used both as a personal car and in taxi services.
With the new GST rate of 18% instead of 28%, its price is expected to come down from Rs. 4.23 lakh (ex-showroom) to around Rs. 3.81 lakh.
2. Maruti Suzuki Swift and Dzire
The Swift and Dzire are two of the most popular sedan models in India.
Both cars were earlier taxed at 28% under GST but with the revised 18% GST, their prices are expected to reduce by approximately Rs. 60,000.
3. Hyundai Grand i10
The Hyundai Grand i10 is an entry-level hatchback that offers upgraded features.
Its current price is Rs. 5.98 lakh but with the GST reduction, it is expected to drop to around Rs. 5.51 lakh. This will make it more affordable for first-time buyers.
4. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso
The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is a compact hatchback powered by a 1.0-litre engine.
Its current price is Rs. 4.26 lakh but after the GST reduction, it is expected to cost around Rs. 3.83 lakh. This will bring it closer to the budget car segment.
5. Tata Tiago
The Tata Tiago is a safe and reliable hatchback with a strong build and good features. It is available in petrol-only and petrol-CNG versions.
Its price is expected to reduce from Rs. 5.65 lakh to around Rs. 5.15 lakh after the new GST is applied.
6. Renault Kwid
The Renault Kwid is a small hatchback that competes directly with the Alto K10.
With the GST reduction, its price is expected to come down by approximately Rs. 40,000 which will make it more competitive in the entry-level car market.
7. Tata Nexon
The Tata Nexon is a popular SUV in India. It qualifies for the 18% GST slab due to its engine and size.
Its price is expected to drop by around Rs. 80,000 making it significantly more affordable for buyers looking for a compact SUV.
8. Hyundai Creta
The Hyundai Creta is a well-known mid-size SUV. Earlier, it was taxed at 43% including GST and cess.
Under the new GST 2.0 regime, it will now attract 40% tax which will reduce its price slightly by around 3%.
9. Mahindra Thar
The Mahindra Thar is a lifestyle SUV and a true off-roader. It was earlier taxed at 45–50%, depending on the variant.
Under GST 2.0, it will now attract 40% GST making it slightly more affordable for buyers.
10. Mahindra Scorpio
The Mahindra Scorpio is a popular large SUV. It was earlier taxed at 50% (28% GST plus 22% cess).
Now, with the cess removed and GST reduced to 40%, its price will drop making it more accessible to buyers.
11. Toyota Innova Crysta
The Toyota Innova Crysta is a highly popular MPV in India. Earlier, it was taxed at 50% including GST and cess.
With the new GST rate of 40%, its price will reduce benefiting buyers looking for a premium family car.
